7 MARATHONS. 7 CONTINENTS. 7 DAYS.

Sandy Lehane Runs the World Challenge for Respite!

In January 2026, Sandy Lehane took on the extraordinary World Marathon Challenge—running seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. It is considered one of the most grueling endurance events in the world, and fewer than 70 women had ever completed it. Over the course of one remarkable week, Sandy successfully ran across Antarctica, Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe, South America, and North America, accomplishing a feat that very few athletes have ever achieved.

What made Sandy’s journey even more meaningful was the purpose behind it. Throughout the challenge, she raised over $100,000 for the Michael Lisnow Respite Center, turning an incredible athletic accomplishment into a powerful act of generosity.

Sandy’s motivation was rooted in two words: inspiration and purpose.

The inspiration came from the extraordinary families she came to know through the Michael Lisnow Respite Center in Hopkinton. For more than 25 years, the Center has provided loving care to children and adults with disabilities, as well as essential support to their families. These parents, siblings, and caregivers live with tremendous challenges, yet demonstrate remarkable resilience every day. Their strength, joy, and unconditional love inspired Sandy throughout her journey.

She often reflected on the endurance she witnessed within the Respite Center community. While her challenge lasted seven days, the challenges faced by many Respite families are lifelong. Their perseverance, courage, and devotion reminded her what true resilience looks like and fueled her determination through every mile.

Sandy’s purpose was clear: to raise awareness and support for the Michael Lisnow Respite Center. Every dollar raised helped provide care, compassion, and relief to families who need it most. The Center remains a place where love lives—where individuals and families who may feel overwhelmed or overlooked are welcomed into a caring and supportive community.

For Sandy, running had always been a passion, but this challenge transformed it into something even greater. By completing the World Marathon Challenge and raising more than $100,000 for the Respite Center, she demonstrated how determination, compassion, and purpose can come together to create a lasting impact.

Her journey stands as an inspiring reminder that when people use their talents and passions in service to others, extraordinary things can happen.
