DISABILITY AWARENESS

DISABILITY SERVICES
The Disability Awareness Program at the Michael Lisnow Respite Center helps young students build understanding, empathy, and respect for people with disabilities.

Through a partnership with local elementary schools, members of our team visit second and third grade classrooms to lead engaging conversations about disabilities, inclusion, and kindness. These visits provide students with the opportunity to ask questions in a supportive and open environment, helping them learn that people with disabilities are individuals with unique talents, personalities, and interests.
ELEMENTARY AWARENESS
After the classroom visit, students take part in a special follow-up experience by visiting the Respite Center. During this visit, they have the chance to meet and interact with children with disabilities in a welcoming and positive setting.
These interactions allow students to see firsthand that friendship, play, and connection are things everyone can share.

The goal of the program is to help break down barriers and build a more compassionate community. By introducing these conversations at a young age, we help students develop a deeper understanding of inclusion and acceptance that can stay with them throughout their lives.

At the Michael Lisnow Respite Center, the Disability Awareness Program is an important part of our mission to foster understanding, kindness, and a more inclusive community for people of all abilities.
